Homemade gooey chocolate fudge pudding is one of our family favourites!
It’s also affectionately known as ‘Stepped-On-Cake’, from the time one of my kids stepped on it, leaving a lovely footprint in the middle! (The pudding was on the floor of the car on its way to a friend’s house.)
This recipe is passed down from my Granny and is my most asked after recipe! It’s a fun pudding to make as the sauce starts out on top of the cake and during baking sinks to the bottom!
Cake Mixture
- 4oz margerine
- 4oz sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 2 tbsp milk
- 3 oz self-raising flour (or plain flour with 1 tsp baking powder)
- 2 full tbsp cocoa powder
- pinch of salt
Cream the margerine and sugar together. Mix in the eggs, vanilla and milk. Sift and stir in the flour, (baking powder), cocoa and salt. Spoon into a 2 1/2 pint pie dish.
Sauce
- 4oz soft brown sugar
- 2 full tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 pint hot water
Mix sauce ingredients together. Pour the sauce over the top of the cake mixture.
Bake at about 180 celsius for about 40 mins or until firm to touch.
Great eaten fresh with ice-cream. Fantastic too, heated up and eaten the next day, when the sauce has gone stickier and soaked into the cake.
Enjoy!
