A little bit of Hebrews 10
(And A Free Devotional For You!)
Did you know that as children of God, there is NOTHING that can separate us from God’s presence?
No thing!
When I sin – mess up, fail, speak an angry or impatient word, judge someone in my heart – in God’s eyes, it is just as if I have never sinned. Isn’t that incredible?
The word is ‘justified’ – just as if I never sinned.
Romans 5:9 says, ‘…we are now justified (acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ’s blood.’ Amplified version.
How often the devil dumps condemnation on us, guilt and sorrow. We feel we have to work things through and ask forgiveness of God before we can enter his presence again.
No! He has already forgiven us. Jesus died ‘once for all when he sacrificed himself on the cross’ Hebrews 7:27.
Yes, we can come to God and say we’re sorry – he loves our open-heartedness. BUT his forgiveness, his presence in our lives is NOT conditional on our confession, on our trying to make ourselves right.
His forgiveness and our righteousness is based only on what Christ has already done for us!
When we mess up, we can ‘boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus…’ and we can ‘…go right into the presence of God, with true hearts fully trusting him. For our evil consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.’ Hebrews 10:19-22.
We can come to him joyfully, thanking him for his forgiveness, and move on with life, in freedom. How different from sitting in guilt and condemnation!
Let me emphasise: Jesus died ‘once for all’, for all people, for all sin. Past, present and future. Jesus now sits (a place of rest) at the father’s right hand.
‘After he died to cleanse us from the stain of sin, he sat down in the place of honour at the right hand of the majestic God of heaven.’ Hebrews 1:3.
Jesus’ work is done. Our future sins are dealt with, already forgiven!! Amazing!
(When Christ died we were not yet born – he was dying for future sins, as well as those already committed – some sins that are now past to us, some that are still future to us. We are forgiven – past, present and future! God’s wonderful grace!)
When Adam and Eve sinned, they were held accountable, their sin was upon them, they were separated from God. They ran and hid. (Though in his amazing love, God sought them out.)
When we sin, what a different story! Jesus was held accountable for our sin, our sin was upon him. He was separated from God’s presence.
As he died, Jesus cried out in ‘a loud voice, “My God, my God why have you forsaken me?” ‘ Mark 15:14.
Our sin sent Jesus to hell, literally (1 Peter 3:18-20). What total separation from his heavenly Father.
All this, so that we can forever be in God’s presence, nothing ever separating us.
My response is one of overwhelming thanks to God.
How about you?
