My kids love making and eating their own pizza. This recipe is a non-yeast recipe using a scone base. We ususally triple the ingredients below to feed our family of six.
Pizza Base
- 8oz self-raising flour (or plain flour & 1 tsp baking powder)
- 2oz margarine
- 1/4 pint milk
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp oregano or basil
Rub margarine into flour with finger tips. Add salt and herbs. Gradually add milk until you can form the mixture into a ball of soft dough.
Divide the dough among your children. Help them roll it out on a floured surface, until thin (2-4 mm). It doesn’t matter what shape it ends up! In fact mine sometimes like to make imaginative shapes like dinosaurs and flowers!
Put bases onto a baking tray dusted with flour.
Pizza Topping
- Tomato paste (if it is concentrated, I thin it out with water)
- Grated cheese
- Choice of chopped peppers, onion, mushrooms, sweetcorn, tuna, ham, pepperoni, pineapple.
- Oregano
Spread the tomato paste over the pizza bases. Let your kids put their own choice of toppings and cheese on their pizzas. Sprinkle with oregano.
Bake in a medium oven for about 10 mins, or until pizza edges start to brown.
Kids eat their own pizzas!!
We always make a big mess when making pizza! Now that my kids are older, the rule is that they have to help clear up, and wash up their own baking tray!
And how about some chocolate fudge pudding for desert?
